The theme for the Stop Killing Games Game Jam was ‘Limited Lifetime’ so I added a twist to the classic Snake game.

The tail slowly decays over time, so eating not only makes you grow, it keeps you alive!

Wait too long without eating and your tail starts to fall off, leaving hazards behind. Try eating one and you’ll decay even faster!


Touching your own tail doesn’t mean game over but you'll cut right though it!

10/10, loved how simple idea can be well executed, and how you managed to introduce the theme into the game, clever! Loved the graphics and cannot wait to do something in Pico-8 myself:)

Good game, but it's too easy to survive because you can eat decayed segments to become shorter. Maybe if you decayed faster over time it would be more fun.

i had decaying faster before and yes, the game was more challenging, however it felt a bit unfair because sometimes the apple is so far that you just can’t get it in time. In this case there’s always a route you can take to get it before decaying, and sometimes eating your decayed body or part of the strategy. 

While the game is easier in the beginning you are always doomed to die later when the blocks start to accumulate but I agree that the game would benefit from being shorter, I’m have a look!

Only suggestion is for the player to be able to play on a smaller map as an option, but great game :D

The game looks and sounds good, however it doesnt feel very responsive

it's hard to keep a balance on the movement. one thing I do is I save the next direction until you reach the center of the tile so you don't need to press in the exact time. however, if you press 2 arrows before reaching the tile only 1 will be recognized. I can try to save the next 2 directions but it might feel weird, specially if you misclick something and try to cancel it out

After 7 minutes score went to negative, -25000 or something, i didn't notice at what point it happened. Was too curious to stop and make a screenshot.


But the game is fun nethertheless. Gj.

ahah I never went that far to have that happened to me! just checked and apparently pico-8 as a max range of 32767, learned something today :)

it's not a bug, it's a feature. The game still works nevertheless


if you wish to refine , Maybe you want to add a tier mechanic because the only difficulty increase is from new dots appearing, which can be mitigated by eating a dot to reset the decay timer. Maybe with each tier there would appear a circle of dots on the outer edge, "the world decaying" making passing to the other side effects the field a taxing move, yet at the same time clearing a path that may be used.

But. I think it's fine the way it is. Great game jam game.
